LIFE:CAPTURED began in August 2013 when we held our first full-day workshop at RAW Space in Sydney, Australia. Our mission is to help people document their stories and create tangible keepsakes to be treasured for generations to come. We offer intensive design, photography, and memory keeping workshops, as well as interactive online classes. We are advocates of honest photography, minimalist design, and memory keeping that's simple, beautiful, and tangible. We are the pioneers of the story book, and we offer flexible templates that enable everybody to tell their story. We believe that life is worth remembering and that it is never too early or too late to start documenting yours. LIFE:CAPTURED was founded by Rhonda Mason (of the Pink Ronnie blog) and Trish Chong (of Tealily Photography).

Frequently Asked Questions - LIFE:CAPTURED Inc (The modern school of memory keeping)

Do you plan to hold your signature workshop in places other than Sydney?
Not at this stage, but potentially down the track. If you wish to stay informed, please sign up for our newsletter by going to our homepagescrolling to the bottom, and entering your details.

Why do you teach InDesign rather than Photoshop?
Whilst Photoshop was designed primarily for image editing, Adobe InDesign was built specifically for graphic layout and desktop publishing. In other words, InDesign allows you to easily create long multi-page documents like story books and it is without question the best software for formatting text - especially large bodies of text. For example, you can duplicate pages (and therefore page layouts) within the same file. You can link text boxes to allow for overflow of text. You can set paragraph styles to ensure consistent formatting of text across a large number of pages. Once you are accustomed to using InDesign, creating a 200 page story book and other similar memory keeping projects will become a breeze. You can read this blog post for further information about the benefits of using InDesign instead of Photoshop.

What are story book templates? How are they different to other photo book templates?
Put simply, a story book is a photo book that tells a story through both images and words. With the widespread use of camera phones, most of us have become heavily reliant on snapping photos as the primary method of documenting our lives. Yet, journaling with words remains one of the most primitive and powerful forms of memory keeping. With this in mind, Ronnie started creating photo books that placed equal emphasis on images and words. Thus, the story book concept was born.

What's the difference between life albums and Project Life albums?
Project Life is the brand name for a scrapbooking system created by Becky Higgins, and it refers to the products sold under that brand - this includes albums, divided pocket page protectors, journaling cards, filler cards, papers, as well digital versions of many of the paper products. Whilst our life album templates can be used as part of the Project Life scrapbooking system, our brand is not affiliated with Project Life.

What sort of album would you recommend?
We like to use 12x12 binders for our life albums, and we particularly like this one by American Craft and this one by We R Memory Keepers. The former one has a more contemporary finish, while the latter is very classic.

Do you plan to release Photoshop templates down the track?
Not at this stage. The reason for this is because we believe wholeheartedly that Adobe InDesign is the best software for the templates that we offer.

What's the difference between the masterclasses and their online counterparts?
While our masterclasses are designed to be intensive one-day courses, our online classes are intended to run over 4-6 weeks, with videos, practical exercises, weekly homework, individual feedback, direct email contact, private forums, and printable handouts. Students who enrol in an online class will end up learning the same content as students who attend the masterclass. However, instead of learning all the content in one day, online students will cover a couple of key topics each week.
